Signed Greg Murphy ‘Lap of the Gods’ Photo

Respected in both New Zealand and Australia, Greg Murphy was one of the first Kiwi’s to compete in the predominately Australian driver focused competition. He was known for his passion on and off the track and what he has done for motorsport in New Zealand, inspiring the next generation of Kiwi racing drivers. You won’t find many Supercar fans, the Holden ones in particular, in New Zealand or Australia who won’t think of his racing number of 51 whenever they hear his name.

Murphy’s top 10 shootout time earned him pole position in 2003 with a time of 2:06.8594 at Bathurst, which at the time was the fastest lap ever recorded at Mount Panorama Circuit until eclipsed seven years later. It is known colloquially as “The Lap of the Gods” and widely regarded as one of the finest moments in Bathurst folklore.

Greg also dominated at the Pukekohe track, New Zealand’s only circuit on the Supercars calendar at the time.

Greg Murphy’s famous Supercars wins include:

• Bathurst 1000 wins in 1996, 1999, 2003 and 2004.
• Four time winner at Pukekohe in 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2005.
